A landmark season of diverse and captivating performances!
We are thrilled to unveil an extraordinary season filled with music, passion, and artistic excellence as we celebrate our 75th year of performing. This milestone season promises to be a vibrant journey through a diverse repertoire that spans centuries and genres, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Our concert series opens on October 26, 2024, with a captivating program featuring a NEW untitled work by Hans Bridger-Heruth, Camille Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre, Edvard Grieg’s enchanting Peer Gynt Suite, and Randall Thompson’s Symphony No. 2. As we move into the holiday season, our December 7 concert will showcase a delightful mix of orchestra sections with pieces such as Leroy Anderson’s playful Sleigh Ride and The Typewriter, as well as Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 1.
In early 2025, we delve into the rich tapestry of American music with a concert featuring Missouri composers. This performance will include Don Gillis’ whimsical Symphony 5 1/2, Overture at the 35th Parallel by John Cheetham, and Aaron Copland’s evocative Tender Land Suite. On April 11, we celebrate youth and emerging talent with the winners of the Florence Frager Young Artist Concerto Competition, culminating in a performance of Georges Bizet’s youthful Symphony in C Major.
Our season finale in May is a grand Pops Concert, featuring a spirited program that includes Morton Gould’s American Salute, Ponchielli’s Dance of the Hours, Johann Strauss’ Radetzky March, and beloved patriotic pieces such as Armed Forces Salute and Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever. The concert also includes Elmer Bernstein’s Magnificent Seven Symphonic Suite, Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story Suite, and the dynamic Slava! A Political Overture.
In our ongoing commitment to making the arts accessible to all, we are delighted to announce that each of our concerts this season will be free. By removing financial barriers, we hope to welcome an even wider audience into our musical family and provide an opportunity for everyone to experience the transformative power of orchestral music.
