The St. Louis Civic Orchestra is pleased to welcome violinist Abigail Meyers as its new Concertmaster.
Abigail Meyers is a small-town girl from rural Illinois. Growing up in a creative and musically inclined family, both music and art have always been fundamental pillars in her life. By the age of five, she had taught herself how to read music and play piano, and at eleven began violin lessons through the Suzuki method.
An eager and quick learner, she joined her first youth orchestra as concertmaster by the age of thirteen, won her first concerto competition at fourteen, and joined her first adult orchestra by sixteen. It was after her first performance as a soloist that Meyers knew she wanted to pursue violin as a career.
In May 2024, Meyers earned her Bachelor of Arts in Violin Performance from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she studied violin with Dr. Lenora Anop and held concertmaster positions with the university’s Symphony Orchestra, Baroque Ensemble, and Pit Orchestra. During her undergraduate studies, she also took lessons with esteemed artists Dr. Clara Kim and Adelya Nartadjieva and participated in masterclasses with soloists Rachel Barton Pine, Lara St. John, and Dr. David Kim. Since graduating, she has continued her study of violin with Dr. Marcin Arendt and Misha Vitenson.
Meyers’ love of music is vast in its varieties, but she has always had a special affinity for orchestral and chamber performance. In pursuit of this love, she has performed with orchestras such as the Peoria Youth Orchestra, Birch Creek Summer Academy Orchestra, Eastern Music Festival Orchestra, Webster University Orchestra, University City Symphony Orchestra, and Eastern Festival of Music Symphony Orchestra.
However, Meyers’ musical career is not limited to the concert stage but also includes routinely working with freelance companies in St. Louis, studio recording work, and private instruction as a registered Suzuki instructor. She is also the co-founder of Golden Glass Music & Co., an adaptable ensemble specializing in live music for special events.
Passionate about both performance and musical education, Meyers is committed to sharing her love of music through thoughtful, expressive musicianship and strong ensemble collaboration.
