St. Louis, MO – April 16, 2024 – The St. Louis Civic Orchestra is thrilled to announce the winners of this year’s Florence Frager Young Artist Competition. Zoe Baldwin, a talented violinist from Clayton High School, claimed first place, while Daniel Kent, an exceptional trombonist from Francis Howell High School, secured second place. Additionally, Eric Chen, a violinist from Marquette High School, received an Honorable Mention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first and second-place winners will perform their pieces with the St. Louis Civic Orchestra at their upcoming concert on April 27th, 2024 at 7:00 pm, at Kirkwood First Presbyterian Church. Zoe Baldwin will perform Saint-Saens’ Violin Concerto No. 3, Movement 1, and Daniel Kent will perform Ferdinand David’s Trombone Concertino. This concert promises to be a memorable evening celebrating the talents of these young musicians.<\/p>\n\n\n

Zoe Baldwin, a freshman at Clayton High School, began her musical journey at the age of four under the guidance of Renita Luehrman and currently studies with Angie Smart. She has showcased her remarkable talent as a member of various ensembles, including the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Webster Community Music School’s Chamber Music Preparatory Program. Zoe’s dedication to her craft has earned her recognition in numerous competitions, including being the First Prize Runner-Up in the Alton Symphony’s Marie Stillwell Young Artists’ Competition and the First Prize Winner of the University of Missouri-St. Louis Junior Division Concerto Competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daniel Kent, a senior at Francis Howell High School, has been passionately playing the trombone for six years. His musical achievements are extensive, ranging from performing in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra to being a member of multiple ensembles, including jazz bands and wind ensembles. Daniel’s commitment to musical excellence has been evident through his participation in prestigious events such as the Interlochen Trombone Choir in Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eric Chen, a sophomore at Marquette High School, has demonstrated exceptional violin prowess since starting his musical journey at age six. His impressive list of accolades includes multiple wins in competitions such as the MTNA Junior String State Competition and the Belleville Philharmonic Orchestra “Stars of Tomorrow” Competition. Eric’s dedication to his craft has also been recognized through his role as co-principal violinist in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
